- Viral Protection falls into three basic categories:

- 1.) Protection- Should a virus try to install itself on your hard drive, a
- good protection program will stop it. Protection programs are not
- much good if your hard drive is already infected.
- 2.) Detection- These programs simply tell you whether or not you have
- an infection. They do not protect against a virus, nor do they remove
- them.
- 3.) Eradication- These programs remove a virus once it is found. Some
- will also repair infected applications and system files to allow them to
- be used again.
